Title: New Years Day Parade - London.

On January 1st January 2009 some of our members travelled to London to take part in the Mayors New Year’s Day Parade, which kicked off at Millbank in the City of Westminster.

In total we had a fleet of seven PC-UK vehicles attend this event. They included...

1. Adrian Cottle’s 1964 Mk3 Ford Zephyr 6 (North Riding Constabulary).

2. Phil Lawrence’s 1975 Rover P6 (Metropolitan Police Royalty Protection Unit).

3. Phil Jacob’s 1985 Volvo 240 Police Special (Hampshire Constabulary).

4. Andy Lawrence’s 1989 Ford Sierra 2.0i GLS (Ford Police Demonstrator). Incidently this was the last show the car was going to do before Andy got his new Rover.

5. Tim Smith’s 1994 Mk3 Ford Granada 2.9i 4x4 (Derbyshire Police).

6. Mark Hunt’s 1993 Vauxhall Omega MV6 (Thames Valley Police).

7. Geoff and Eve Stumbles 1994 Mk3 Ford Transit Multi-Role (Derbyshire Police).

For the people that have not been to this event before, the run goes on for about two and a bit miles, and almost walking pace, through the streets of Westminster, taking in some of the sights.

Despite the fact that it was rather cold, it was dry, which helped with drawing in the crowds. There must have been thousands of people lining the streets, taking in the floats, marching bands, and majorettes are they went.

We generally found, that this was event was the same as any other the PC-UK attend, in that there was lots of attention from members of the public towards our vehicles throughout the day.

Whilst doing the run itself, we found that the attention intensified even more, probably because Tim was using the Public Address system on his car to wish everyone a happy new year. Tim’s car was also used for a bit of publicity, as he had the club website address up on the matrix in the back of his car, which I thought was a really nice touch.

To finish off this blog, I would like to say a huge thank you to Tim for all his efforts in organising our attendance at this event. I for one, loved it. Stick me down for next year!!!

As usual with any of my reports, below is a selection of photos covering this event. I am also in the process of editing camera footage of the run to put on the site, and will add that as soon as I can.

Regards

“Oi, have you got a licence for that?”

Unfortunately the rogue rider, failed to stop and made good his escape, prior to blending into the crowd. See Below.
